Experience

I have 19 years of classroom experience, in American, European, and Latin American history. I taught for many years at Savannah State University, and before that as a teaching assistant at the University of Illinois. One-on-one tutoring was an essential part of both jobs. I consistently received good or excellent evaluations from my students. Essential to being a successful history student is having a good handle on reading, writing, and critical analysis. Even if you are not a history student, I would be happy to help you work on these skills, whether you are in high school or college. If you are struggling with a particular essay assignment, maybe I can smooth the road for you. I got perfect scores in both AP US History and IB History of the Americas (a long time ago!). I have taken the GRE twice and gotten 99% on the Verbal section both times. I can share my tricks with you. I enjoy individual tutoring a great deal and in my experience can make a huge difference for the student.

I provide a friendly, no-nonsense tutoring service in history, writing, test prep, and related subjects for both high school and college students. My approach is to identify what the specific issues are that need to be addressed and take a focused approach during the tutoring session. I try to keep things casual, but I am interested in results. I think all students can be successful, and I tailor my approach to the needs of the student. I have lived in Savannah for about 15 years. My hobbies include bird-watching, music, and movies. My schedule is generally flexible, and I should be able to meet with you at your convenience provided I have not already scheduled an appointment at that time.
